BEHIND THE NUMBERS

Clear math. Better decisions.

Square density = area ÷ spacing². Triangular density = area ÷ (spacing² × √3/2). Round up for a purchasing estimate.

A worked example

100 sq ft at 2 ft spacing gives 25 plants on a square grid, or about 29 on a triangular grid.

Before you order

  • Estimate groundcover or shrub purchase counts from center-to-center spacing.
  • Area-based density does not account for boundary setbacks or exact row positions. Check a drawn layout before ordering.

Good questions.

Where do the prices come from?

You enter actual supplier prices. A blank price is unknown; enter zero only when that item is free or deliberately excluded. Taxes and installation are excluded unless a field explicitly includes them.

Can I use metric measurements?

Yes. The unit selector converts dimensions and unit prices. Results use whole packages where applicable. Starting dimensions are examples; confirm product specifications before ordering.
