Gravel calculator
Turn a path into a material list.
Estimate gravel volume and weight for a path or bed using adjustable density, depth, and local supplier prices.
Clear math. Better decisions.
A worked example
A 20 × 10 ft area at 4 inches deep is 66.67 cubic feet before allowance. At an entered density of 100 lb per cubic foot, that is about 3.33 US short tons.
Before you order
- Ask whether the quoted density is loose-delivered or compacted material.
- A US short ton is 2,000 lb. A metric tonne is 1,000 kg; they are not interchangeable.
- Confirm the required base design and depth locally. This tool estimates quantities, not pavement performance.
Good questions.
Is one cubic yard always the same weight?
No. Cubic yards measure volume and tons measure mass. Particle size, rock type, moisture, and packing change the weight of a yard. Use a density supplied for the actual material.
Does the extra percentage model compaction?
It is a simple multiplier, not a soil or compaction model. Ask your supplier how much loose material is needed for your finished dimensions, then set the allowance accordingly.
